Singapore's multitude of large scale exhibitions and festivals includes the M1 Fringe Festival 2011 and Art and Education (January 5-16), where you can explore how art educates and indoctrinates.
1. Art is alive
Art Stage Singapore (January 12-16) is a showcase of works from the likes of Joan Miro, Henry Moore and Andy Warhol.
Singapore Biennale 2011 (March 13-May 15) ignores borders and focuses instead on how we form connections with each other.
The annual Huayi-Chinese Festival of Arts 2011 (February 4-13) celebrates all things Chinese, from songs to performance. Local songbird Kit Chan will return to the musical stage after a six-year hiatus.
The Valentino, Retrospective: Past/Present/Future exhibition (through February 13) showcases the fashion designer's early designs to present-day creations. This is the exhibition's only stop in Asia, so your only chance to admire Valentino's masterpieces.
2. Zee Cine Awards 2011
Bollywood fans, make plans to be at the Marina Bay Sands on January 14. This is your chance to catch a glimpse of Bollywood A-listers Shahrukh Khan, Priyanka Chopra and Arjun Rampal walking the red carpet at the Zee Cine Awards 2011.
3. Festivals galore

This 11-hour long concert features Australian and American artists such as !!! (Chk Chk Chk), Deerhunter, Foals, Holy F***, Ladyhawke, The Temper Trap, Warpaint and Yeasayer.

Mosaic Music Festival 2011

6. ArtScience Museum
A world first, this massive museum contains 21 gallery spaces dedicated to art and science. Galleries include “Curiosity,” which has an ascending “floating” staircase; “Inspiration,” an interactive gallery that features Leonardo da Vinci’s Flying Machine, a Kongming Lantern and high-tech Robotic Fish; and “Expression,” a multimedia gallery highlighting great artists and scientists across time and cultures.

7. Emily of Emerald Hill
The multi-talented Ivan Heng reprises a much beloved role. It’s the same old story about the glory days of Singapore’s Peranakan community, but watch for new sets, costumes and multimedia projections.

8. iFly
Now you can fly like Superman without the risks. The indoor skydiving simulator uses a vertical wind tunnel to mimic what happens when you jump out of a plane. This does not mean you have an excuse to wear your underwear on the outside.

9. Battlestar Galactica re-opens
The dueling Humans vs. Cylons rollercoaster ride will re-open for thrills and whirls in the first half of 2011. It's about time. The ride has been closed for repairs since March 25, 2010.

10. Sundown Marathon 2011 and Sundown Ultra Marathon 2011
For the avid runner, 2011’s Sundown Marathon will offer 10-kilometer, 21-kilometer, and 42-kilometer nocturnal races. Why stop there? Take the challenge of the Sundown Ultra Marathon, a 100-kilometer race before sunrise.

11. ScreenSingapore
This trade festival is a platform for film industry buyers, sellers, producers and creative talent to exchange ideas, opportunities and products. Film buffs will lap up the red carpet premieres of Hollywood summer blockbusters. More importantly it’ll also be a showcase of Asian films exported to the world.

12. Pangaea and Avalon
Move over, Ku De Ta. In 2011, we’re going lavish and upscale with two American imports: Pangaea and Avalon. Pangaea is perfect for slick lounge lizards while Avalon brings to Singapore its brand of a mega-club experience. Both will be housed in Marina Bay Sand’s floating Crystal Pavilion.

13. Gardens by the Bay
This ambitious project creates a City in a Garden along the Marina Bay area. Divided into south, east and central areas, the Gardens by the Bay will feature different garden zones, featuring plants from all over the world.

14. The Crane Dance
Created by Emmy Award winner Jeremy Railton, this 10-minute show on the waterfront of Resorts World Sentosa uses 30-meter-high and 80-ton mechanical cranes with flashing digital spectacles to enact the courtship dance performed by cranes in the wild.

15. The Naracoorte Cave
The Night Safari’s latest attraction features native cave wildlife such as the beauty snake, roof rat and tailless whip scorpion. It’s all part of a larger Australasian Trail that is scheduled to open in early 2012; we're hoping they kick off a wee bit earlier than that.
